Monthly Rant & Inspo – March 2026
Hey everybody! Hope life has been treating you well lately. Out here it’s been pretty mellow, kinda sunny, mostly warm… been skating a bit lately so I couldn’t really ask for any better. The following part has been on my mind for a while. Ever since the DVD event in Burgas where we rewatched it and it once again blew my mind. So today I got sum to say…
This March’s part of the month is:
Dane Brady in Polar’s „I like it here inside my mind. Don’t wake me this time.“ (2016)
Where do we start with this part… As a matter of fact, where do we start with this video! I’m not gonna get into the whole rant about how much Polar means to all of us from Eastern Bulgaria, as I have already talked about it quite a lot in the David and Emile Pro Article . If you need a bit of context, go check it out and if not, just be aware that this video had a tremendous influence on everybody who was around Amnesia at that time. Honestly, thank you Marto for teaching all of us about this skating!
To me this part is a masterpiece. Quite frankly, it’s one of my favorite ones ever and for a lot of reasons. First lets start with the song. I mean come its a beautiful one. I bet many had this playing in their headphone while cruising to the skatepark after watching this part. I know I certainly had and still have it on heavy rotation. Its one of those song that literally makes you want to go out skating, not even on some mission shit, just on some cruising shit.
Then obviously, we have the editing of the part. Super classical, yet the intro is weirdly interactive, even though it’s as simple as it can get. Bare in mind, if you watched this video when it came out or around that time and you were a kid, you probably did not know any of the names in the video. So having this person literally introduce himself to you is extremely smart. Now you know damn well that this is Dane, you know his house, his curbs, and even his dog! Not to get too deep into that but just psychologically it makes so much sense that you would remember this guy. Idk, maybe I’m just chatting shit, but that was the case for me.
Lastly, of course we gotta talk about Dane’s tricks and style. I think its pretty safe to say that he was ahead of the trends by about 5 years. Or at least he was one of the first guys to be on a major company and do those kinds of stuff. His skating is relatable, especially if you are from a place where you kind of have a limit of what you can skate. If that is the case and you are still trying to skate the streets, you are very likely to have to skate curbs, crusty half-spots, trees and rocks sometimes. This part makes all of those stuff look cool. It hypes you up to go out in your limited terrain and try to make the most out of it. This part makes you reimagine what a spot really is. I mean it’s extremely cliche to say it but it makes you feel like everything could be a spot. In 2026 this mindset is kinda common but for a kid 10 years ago this idea would blow your kind. Especially if you grew up in the skate Youtube era where you would watch skatepark crews do insane stuff at their locals. Honestly, I was one of those kids so naturally when I first saw that video (and specifically this part) it was like a breath of fresh air. It kinda changed everything for me.
This part very dear to my heart. I am really glad I got to live and skate in the early Polar era and get so much from it. To me, Dane Brady is the heart and sole of Polar, he represents the brand’s identity and what it is about (to me anyways). Thank you Pontus, Dane and Marto!
